Walk In And Opening Hours FAQs
Is Harbour Town Doctors a 24 hour medical centre?
No. We are a general practice open 7 days a week rather than a 24 hour clinic. Our doors are open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am to 1:00pm. For health advice outside those hours, 13 HEALTH on 13 43 25 84 is staffed around the clock by registered nurses in Queensland. For anything life threatening, call 000.
Can I walk in without an appointment?
Yes. Walk in patients are welcome every day we are open and you do not need to be an existing patient. You will be seen by the next available doctor, so the wait depends on how busy the clinic is that day. If you would rather not wait, you can book an appointment online.
What are your opening hours?
Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday 9:00am to 1:00pm, Brisbane time. We close on a small number of public holidays each year, so please call 07 5222 7117 before travelling on a public holiday.
Are you open on weekends?
Yes. We are open on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am to 1:00pm for both walk in patients and booked appointments. Weekend consultations are face to face at the clinic, as telehealth phone consultations run on weekdays only.
How long will I wait as a walk in patient?
It varies with the day and the time, and mornings are usually the busiest. Reception can give you a realistic estimate if you call 07 5222 7117 before you set off, and booking a time online removes the guesswork altogether.
Do you bulk bill walk in patients?
Bulk billing is available for eligible Medicare card holders. New patients seen on a Saturday or Sunday are charged a $45.00 administration fee. Reception will tell you about any cost before you are seen, and there is more detail on our patient information page.
Can I request a female GP as a walk in patient?
You can ask, and reception will do their best to fit you in with a female doctor on the day. It depends on who is consulting and how full their list is, so booking ahead is the surest route. See who is available on our female doctors page.
What should I bring to a walk in appointment?
Your Medicare card, any concession, DVA or private health fund card, a list of the medications you take, and any referrals, imaging or results you already have. New patients will be asked to complete a short registration form when they arrive.
Are you open on public holidays?
The clinic is closed on a number of public holidays, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, Australia Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday and the King’s Birthday. Call 07 5222 7117 to confirm before you travel.
Where should I go if I need a doctor after 5pm?
For advice at any hour, call 13 HEALTH on 13 43 25 84. For a problem that cannot wait until morning but is not life threatening, your nearest hospital emergency department can assess you. For chest pain, breathing difficulty, severe bleeding or stroke symptoms, call 000 immediately.
