About Dr Sarwat
Dr Sarwat grew up in the Middle East and completed her medical degree and internship there. She then moved to the Gulf region, where she worked as a general practitioner within the ministry of health for five years.
She and her husband moved to Australia with their two sons and lived in rural Queensland, where she looked after families from a wide range of cultures, languages and backgrounds. She describes that period as the most valuable of her career, because rural practice asks a GP to handle almost everything that comes through the door. After completing her fellowship in general practice she moved to the Gold Coast and has settled here.
Her guiding view is that prevention is better than cure. She is particularly interested in picking things up early, whether that is through a 45 to 49 health assessment, a cervical screening test, or catching a chronic condition before it becomes difficult to control. She is happy treating everyone from babies to seniors, and patients of all abilities.
Being fluent in English, Arabic, Urdu and Hindi matters more than it might sound. It removes the need for an interpreter for a large part of the Gold Coast community, which makes conversations about sensitive matters such as women’s health or mental health considerably easier.
Away from the clinic she enjoys travelling, cooking and time with her family. You can meet the rest of the practice on our doctors page, or read more about Harbour Town Doctors.
