See A Female Doctor Near You
Looking for a female doctor near you on the northern Gold Coast? Several of our GPs at Harbour Town Doctors are women, and you are always welcome to ask for one when you book. For a cervical screening test, a contraception conversation or anything that involves an examination, most women find that makes the visit much easier.
Our doctors look after women through every stage, from a first appointment about periods or contraception, through pregnancy and fertility, into perimenopause and menopause and beyond. Dr Nidah performs a range of procedures in the clinic, including contraceptive implants and iron infusions, so many women can be treated here rather than being sent elsewhere.
We are an accredited bulk billing practice at Harbour Town Premium Outlets, open 7 days with free parking and onsite pathology for blood tests and screening. No referral is needed to see a GP, so book an appointment with a female doctor or call 07 5222 7117.

Screening Tests And When They Are Due
These are the screening tests Australian women are generally advised to have, and how often. Your GP will tailor them to your own history, and can order most of them during a single appointment with pathology collected on site.
| Test | How Often | Who And When |
|---|---|---|
| Cervical screening test | Every 5 years | From 25 to 74. Self-collection available. |
| Breast screening (mammogram) | Every 2 years | Free through BreastScreen from 50 to 74, and available from 40 if you choose. |
| Bowel screening kit | Every 2 years | Posted to you free from age 45. |
| Iron and full blood count | As advised | Worth checking with heavy periods, pregnancy, fatigue or a vegetarian diet. |
| Blood pressure | At least every 2 years | More often in pregnancy, or with a family history of heart disease. |
| Diabetes and cholesterol | From 40, then as advised | Part of the bulk billed 45 to 49 health check. |
| Bone density | From 50 if at risk | Earlier after an early menopause or a fracture. |
| Skin check | Yearly for most | More often with fair skin, many moles or a family history. |

Procedures Done Here At The Clinic
One of the things that sets our practice apart is how much can be handled in the room rather than sending you across the coast. Dr Nidah performs a range of in-clinic procedures, and our other GPs cover screening, minor procedures and ongoing care.
If something does need a specialist, your GP arranges the referral and follows up the results with you afterwards, so nothing gets lost along the way.
Available In Clinic
- Contraceptive implant insertion and removal
- Iron infusions when blood tests show you need one
- Cervical screening tests, including self-collection
- Skin checks and minor skin procedures
- Onsite pathology so blood tests are taken here
Ask reception for a longer appointment when booking a procedure.
Women's Health Questions
What women ask our Biggera Waters GPs most often.
Do you have female doctors at Harbour Town Doctors?
Yes. Several of our GPs are women and you can request a female doctor when you book. If your preferred GP is not consulting that day, reception will tell you when she is next in. You can meet the team on our doctors page.
How often do I need a cervical screening test?
Most women aged 25 to 74 need one every 5 years if results are normal. The cervical screening test replaced the Pap smear in Australia and looks for HPV, which is why the gap is longer than the old two years. Your GP will tell you if you need it more often.
Can I collect the cervical screening sample myself?
Yes. Self-collection is available to all eligible women. You use a simple swab in privacy at the clinic and it is just as accurate for detecting HPV as a sample taken by your doctor. Many women who have put off screening find this much easier.
Can I get a contraceptive implant at the clinic?
Yes. Dr Nidah inserts and removes contraceptive implants here. Book a longer appointment and let reception know what it is for. Your GP will talk through all the contraception options with you first so you can choose what suits you.
Can my GP help with menopause symptoms?
Yes. Your GP can talk through hot flushes, sleep, mood, vaginal dryness and bone health, and explain the options including menopausal hormone therapy and non-hormonal approaches. Perimenopause often starts in your 40s, so it is worth raising early.
I am always tired. Could it be low iron?
It often is, particularly with heavy periods, pregnancy or a vegetarian diet. A blood test checks iron, and we collect it on site. If your levels are very low, an iron infusion can be given here. Read more about iron deficiency and iron infusions.
Are women's health appointments bulk billed?
We are an accredited bulk billing practice, so consultations are bulk billed for eligible Medicare card holders, including cervical screening tests. Some procedures and pathology may attract a fee, so ask reception when you book.
Do I need a referral to see a GP about women's health?
No. You never need a referral to see a GP. Walk in during opening hours or book online, and mention it is a women's health appointment so enough time is set aside.
